When Bill Clinton's presidency was threatened by talk of impeachment way back in 1998, the nonprofit organization MoveOn.org was founded by Joan Blades and Wes Boyd in order to urge Congress to simply censure President Clinton for his sexual improprieties in the Oval Office and "move on" with the functions of government rather than removing Clinton from office. I'm not with him. That was twenty years ago. So why hasn't MoveOn.org moved on? Logically, the reason for their existence should have ended when Bill Clinton's impeachment concluded in the Senate without his conviction, even though he was clearly guilty beyond any reasonable doubt of sexual misconduct while in office and of committing perjury about his adultery, but the American people were told those were insufficient reasons to remove a sitting President from office. MoveOn.org lost the battle to stop impeachment, but they won the war. Bill Clinton served both terms in full. Follow the money, as they say. The reason MoveOn.org won't move on is because they can't. They are mired in the past, driving a powerful fund-raising machine using well-known liberal political figures such as Robert Reich (former Clinton Secretary of Labor) helping them raise money for "progressive" causes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=170&v=oyjm_Bnncms And boy, do liberals ever get their money's worth! Just take a look at this high quality, mature and thought-provoking commercial they made about Obamacare--but don't let any children wander within earshot while you do. The Pearl: 21 March 2015
Character is much easier kept than recovered. -- Thomas Paine Thomas Paine wrote the famous pamphlet titled Common Sense that fueled the inspiration for the American Revolution, publishing it on January 9, 1776. Six months later, the Declaration of Independence would be signed in Philadelphia, starting the war between England and its American colonies. In plain language every colonist could easily understand, Payne challenged the authority of the British crown to rule over America and inspired the revolution in doing so. Founding Father John Adams even said, "Without the pen of the author of Common Sense, the sword of Washington would have been raised in vain." The interesting thing about common sense is that it never goes out of style, nor stops making sense. Even today, his quote about character remains quite relevant. Monica Lewinsky found this out the hard way. When Bill Clinton had an affair with her while occupying the White House, it was her reputation that was destroyed, because Bill was a popular president. But Monica wasn't exactly innocent -- media reports suggested that she was a seductress who pursued the affair with Clinton. More problematic for her reputation was the fact that she lied in a sworn affidavit in the Paula Jones sexual harassment case. The scandal led to the impeachment trial of Bill Clinton, but Monica became the punchline for an endless stream of mostly tasteless jokes. Bill Clinton emerged from the scandal largely unscathed, however. Once the Senate acquitted him of perjury and obstruction of justice charges, he … [Read more...]
The court of public opinion
In the court of public opinion, Bill Cosby has already been tried and convicted of serial rape. Now that more than twenty women have come forward to publicly accuse Mr. Cosby, apparently that is enough for most people to decide he's guilty. Before going any further, let me be crystal clear about something-- rape is NOT even remotely funny. Rape is no joking matter. Period. End of discussion. The act of forced rape is a despicable crime committed by cowards, an act of violence that is usually perpetrated against women. Rape should never be excused or tolerated, no matter the identity of the accused, or the victim. Convicted rapists and sex offenders should be punished to the full extent of the law, with no exceptions whatsoever. I need to be very clear to say that I don't know whether or not Mr. Cosby is guilty -- only that if he is guilty of any of these horrific accusations and they can be proved in a court of law, that he should be tried, convicted, and sent to prison. On the other hand, it's very important to note that as troubling as these allegations may be, it is equally troubling to see his reputation destroyed without these charges being proved in court. More than twenty potential rape cases couldn't even find one prosecutor like Mike Nifong? Why has Bill Cosby been immune from prosecution all these years? A preliminary investigation into the histories of the accusers of Cosby represented by attorney Gloria Allred suggests at least some of these cases are fraudulent. However, if even one of them is true and can be proved in court, then … [Read more...]
Father’s Day
I've got a couple of things to get off my chest this weekend. I probably could have combined two blogs into one titled "Things that make me want to vomit" , but I'd rather stay on point. Say what needs to be said, and then get back to work. I've got to finish Premonition. And I'm working on it. So here's a quick thought... I won't be celebrating Father's Day this year. This has nothing to do with my children, or that my father is dead. It has everything to do with Father's Day becoming a joke this year. When I read that the National Father's Day Committee chose to honor Bill Clinton as 2013 Father of the Year, I forced down the bile that reached the back of my throat. Seriously? Bill Clinton? Forget politics for a minute. Forget the fact that this is a man that we know committed adultery in the White House and lied about it under oath. Forget that Clinton's license to practice law was suspended for five years for committing perjury. I'm not saying Clinton is the absolute worst father in the world, but really -- Father of the Year? Remember Bill didn't just cheat on Hillary while Chelsea still lived at home, he humiliated his wife on national television. Bill committed adultery, lied about it, and got caught. Hillary defended Bill as the persecuted victim of a "vast, right-wing conspiracy", making her look very foolish after DNA evidence was produced. Exactly what sort of example did this "Father of the Year" set? Chelsea learned that men who are rich enough or powerful enough can get away with anything. They can disrespect their … [Read more...]
